Five-card stud is earliest form of stud poker game, which later developed dozens of variations. It is very similar to 7 Card Stud, and played by the same rules. The betting limits, bankroll, the ante and the deal are similar to 7card stud. The difference is that only one card is dealt face down to each player; there are 2nd, 3rd and 4th streets, plus the River.
A round begins with the dealer giving each player two cards. Usually the first is a pocket (hidden) card and the second is open (face up).
When the first bets are placed, low card opening is standard but even the high card can open. The game continues the same either way. The betting round circles the table and it's on to Third Street.
The third card is dealt to each player as an open card. Thereafter the betting is carried out similar to that in 7 Card Stud.
Another open card is dealt, typically played per 7 Stud's Fifth and Sixth.
The final card, usually also an open card. Betting takes place as per 7 Stud's Seventh Street.
